Raleigh Mobile Notary FAQ

Check out some of our most commonly asked questions.

Why do documents need to be notarized?

Documents are notarized to deter fraud and to ensure proper execution. It is the responsibility of the notary public to ensure that the signers have appeared before them and have produced proper identification. The Notary Public officiates at the signing and insures that the documents are signed correctly. The notary makes sure that the signers are entering into agreements knowingly and willingly.

How much does a notary cost?

There are some variables which affect a notarzation cost, such as the number of signatures, etc. Please contact me for more information.

What if I've already signed the document?

A document can only be signed in the presence of a notary. So please DO NOT sign your documents until the notary is present. Otherwise, it cannot be notarized.

What form of ID do I need?
  • State issued driver's license
  • State issued identification card
  • United States issued passport
  • Military service ID issued by the U.S. government
  • Alien registration card (green card)
  • Federally recognized tribal government identification card
Do you have set hours?

No, I don't have set times of availability; although I try to fulfill as many notary requests as possible, I'm not a full-time Notary Public. My main business schedule can affect my daily availability for scheduling notary appointments, and on some days, I'm much more available than on others.

Does a car title need a buyer?

The buyer does not need to be present when notarizing the title, but the buyer's name needs to be included at the top of the title, and this commits the buyer to sign the title upon receiving it.

Without a buyer, the title would be left open, and the seller can jump the title, which is illegal in all states.

Title jumping is the act of buying a vehicle and selling it without registering it in your name. The title “jumps” from one owner to the next, without any record. Title jumping is also known as a jumped title or floated title.

The bottom line is that it is illegal to sell a car that is titled in someone else’s name.

Do you verify I-9 forms?

No, I do not sign and verify I-9 forms. It's not an actual notarized document, but a person can sign it by acting as an authorized representative on behalf of your employer, which I do not do.

Can I come to you?

I am only mobile as I don't maintain an office for walk-in clients.

What if I don't have an ID?

You will need to obtain a federal or state-issued ID showing your face's photographic image and either your signature or physical description. Contact your local town or city about how to get a driver's license or state identification card.

Can notaries draft legal documents?

A Notary Public is forbidden from preparing legal documents or acting as a legal advisor. Violators may be fined and/or imprisoned for practicing law unauthorized.

Can any document be notarized?

For a document to be notarized, it must written entirely in English, contain the proper notarial wording, and text committing the signer.

Do you notarize mortgage closings?

Absolutely. I notarize closing documents from all states for both buyers and sellers. If you can't make your closing date for any reason, I'll help you get the closing package notarized and right back in the mail for overnight shipping.

Do you go to hospitals?

Yes, I've performed notary services at all the hospitals in the Triangle, as well as most of the assisted living facilities and hospice care facilities. No matter what your situation in life might be, I'll be there for you at any of those locations.

Do you provide witnesses?

I do not provide witnesses. If your document requires witnesses, they will need to be present at the time of notarization. Often they need to be not related or have a direct benefit of the documents. Many people use a couple of friends or neighbors.

Do you notarize documents in Spanish?

I do not notarize documents in any language except English. A notary must be fluent in a foreign language to notarize documents in that language. I am unable to speak any language other than English fluently.
